Proving Coercion-Resistance of Scantegrity II

چکیده
Recently, Küsters, Truderung, and Vogt have proposed a simple, yet widely applicable and formal definition of coercion-resistance for voting protocols, which allows to precisely quantify the level of coercion-resistance a protocol provides. In this paper, we use their definition to analyze coercion-resistance of Scantegrity II, one of the most prominent voting systems used in practice. We show that the level of coercion-resistance of Scantegrity II is as high as the one of an ideal voting system, under the assumption that the workstation and the PRNG used in Scantegrity II are honest.

Selections: Internet Voting with Over-the-Shoulder Coercion-Resistance
We present Selections, a new cryptographic voting protocol that is end-to-end verifiable and suitable for Internet voting. After a one-time in-person registration, voters can cast ballots in an arbitrary number of elections. We say a system provides over-the-shoulder coercionresistance if a voter can undetectably avoid complying with an adversary that is present during the vote casting process....

Building on lessons learned from the November 2009 Scantegrity II election in Takoma Park, MD, we propose improvements to the Scantegrity II voting system that (1) automatically print trustworthy receipts for easier on-line verification, (2) highlight ballot features including over/under votes to comply with the Help America Vote Act, and (3) achieve full voter verifiability by eliminating prin...
متن کاملScantegrity II: End-to-End Verifiability for Optical Scan Election Systems using Invisible Ink Confirmation Codes
We introduce Scantegrity II, a practical enhancement for optical scan voting systems that achieves increased election integrity through the novel use of confirmation codes printed on ballots in invisible ink. Voters mark ballots just as in conventional optical scan but using a special pen that develops the invisible ink. Verifiability of election integrity is end-to-end, allowing voters to chec...

We report on our experiences and lessons learned using Scantegrity II in a mock election held April 11, 2009, in Takoma Park, Maryland. Ninety-five members of the community participated in our test of this voting system proposed for the November 2009 municipal election. Results helped improve the system for the November binding election.

In response to voting security concerns, security researchers have developed tamper-resistant, voter verifiable voting methods. These end-to-end voting systems are unique because they give voters the option to both verify the system is working properly and to check that their votes have been recorded after leaving the polling place. While these methods solve many of the security problems surrou...
